When you first start running Amazon, you may come across some confusing jargon such as ASIN, SKU, and FNSKU.
These terms are important to sellers running Amazon. They help sellers manage inventory, track products, and ensure smooth logistics operations.
Next, we will explain what each noun means
ASIN (Amazon Standard Identification Number) is a unique code assigned by Amazon to each listed product. Just like everyone has an ID card, each product has its own ASIN.
This code is automatically generated by Amazon and cannot be changed by the seller.
ASIN allows sellers to quickly find their products, whether on Amazon's front or backend. When you need to communicate with customer service about product issues, providing the ASIN of the product can help both parties save time and effectively reduce communication difficulties.
If you want to know how to check your ASIN code, you can read here
SKU (Stock Keeping Unit) is an internal product code used to help sellers manage their own product inventory in the background.
Different from ASIN, SKU can be defined by the seller, which means that the seller can create and name the SKU according to his own needs. Even if the seller chooses not to customize the SKU, Amazon will automatically generate a SKU code for the product.
The SKU code will be unique within your own company, but not within Amazon. On the Amazon system, your SKU may be repeated with other sellers, so on Amazon, ASIN is still the main one.
FBA Product ID - FNSKU
FNSKU (Fulfillment Network Stock Keeping Unit) is specifically used for Amazon's Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) service, which is the code used by Amazon Logistics.
Here we need to briefly introduce Amazon’s two main logistics models, FBA and FBM.
FBA (Fulfillment by Amazon) refers to Amazon logistics. As long as you send the goods to the Amazon warehouse, Amazon will help you handle subsequent shipment returns.
FBM (Fulfilled by Merchant) refers to the seller's own shipment, that is, when a seller places an order, the seller has to complete the shipment and possible subsequent returns by himself. FNSKU is a product code specially used for "FBA".
The FNSKU code will be used on the outer packaging label of the product so that when Amazon receives the product, it can quickly scan and add it to the inventory system. This way, when orders come in, Amazon can handle shipping for the seller.
Each product entering the FBA system will receive a unique FNSKU to ensure accurate tracking and management during the logistics process. Although these professional terms may seem complicated, they are actually not difficult at all. As long as you are familiar with these professional terms, you will be able to communicate with customer service or account managers more easily when you encounter problems!
